I was trying to think about what you do now in America to be successful. Think Rich. Look Poor. If you’re broke, act spoiled and spend money like its nothing, then people will keep wanting to give you more. America started a tradition where the richest consumers buy the same as the poorest.

This piece prompted a series of works in which I selected written notes from my sketchbook that were ripped out and crumpled up. I created the rumpled paper aesthetic in the large scale to exhibit permanence in the mundanity of sketchbook level writing. This was also a material study as well as a reach outside my comfort zone into explicit text based artwork.
